The Secession of Alabama
The State of Alabama seceded in 1861 due to the issues of slavery. Alabama was a pro-slavery state like the rest of the confederacy, while Lincoln, the president of the United States wanted to slow and stop the expansion of slavery, not abolish it. Regardless, Alabama viewed him as a threat and seceded. This showed that the issue of slavery and sectionalism between the states was large enough to cause a large secession of southern and some western states. The United States had different views on the morals and principles of slavery in which led to the civil war, and reforms of slavery.
